Dear Author and/or Podficcer,

Hi! Call me Eafay.
(Think "Leaf" without the "L," then "day" without the "d." First syllable is stressed.)
IPA (mooched from Wiktionary's entries for the above-mentioned words and "deejay"): /ˈifːeɪ/
Pronouns: she/her/hers

This is my fifth time participating! I hope this letter helps you in your creating.

Fandom-Specific Things

Note: I'm totally open to gen for all of these fandoms!

Men's Hockey RPF
  • no Blackhawks as the focus of the story (mentioning the team as an opponent is okay) (in terms of players on the team: stories about them before they were Blackhawks are okay)

  • no P. Kane, E. Kane, C. DeSmith, S. Varlamov, D. Doughty, B. Leipsic, M. Domi (if there are names often included in that list that I've forgotten, err on the side of avoidance)

  • In the unfortunately likely event that a player is accused of something similar to the players listed above, use your discretion. (This includes, but isn't limited to, sexual assault/harassment, domestic violence, and use of offensive slurs. I'm sorry if this is vague, but I trust your judgment!)

  • Avoid the term "McJesus" for Connor McDavid (if you deem the fic otherwise perfect for me, please make a note of the term's presence in your notes so I'm warned) (YES, THIS IS A BIG ENOUGH 😠 TO WARRANT THAT)

  • Please keep Tyson Barrie and Alexander Kerfoot as Avs, and please keep Nazem Kadri as a Leaf.

  • Um...I can't think of any NOTPs in this fandom

  • I'm currently most familiar with the Pens, Avs, and Devils, but I don't mind an excuse to learn about other teams! Heck, if you want to create something not involving the NHL, go for it!!

  • I can't believe I didn't mention this last year: The Hughes brothers are Jewish and I adore them!!!!!!!!

Women's Hockey RPF
  • I'm not very familiar with women's hockey, but if you want to create something that matches my likes/dislikes in terms of tropes (see general list below), then by all means go for it!

  • Ships: Apps/Duggan and Chu/Ouellette are the ones I don't want shipped with anyone else. Other than that, I'm not picky!

Men's Football RPF
  • no CR7 despite me having written him in the past (this includes mentions)

  • Um...I can't think of any NOTPs in this fandom

  • That being said, I haven't done a lot in this fandom in a long time. So I'm not even sure whom I ship these days??

  • I know that Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League) and AFC Ajax (Eredivisie) have Jewish identity within their historical fanbases. (I'm not sure that sentence makes much sense, but if you look them up on Wikipedia, you'll know what I mean.) So if you want to do something about one of them, or if you find a similar club and want to share the knowledge, go for it!

  • I'm most familiar with the Premier League, Bundesliga, MLS, and La Liga, but I don't mind an excuse to learn about somewhere else!

Tennis RPF
  • ships: Federer/Nadal, Kyrgios/Tsitsipas, Melo/A. Zverev, Alcaraz/Sinner, Auger-Aliassime/Shapovalov, Schwartzman/Thiem

  • Related to the last two ships mentioned: I know Diego Schwartzman is Jewish, so something about that would be cool! Denis Shapovalov has a Jewish mother and Christian father; he wears a cross when he plays and says he's Christian, but his mother says he's Jewish. (Article: https://www.thejc.com/news/uk/israel-born-wimbledon-star-jew-ish-1.518439) I don't know if that makes him Jewish enough for this event, but please join me in being shocked at the chutzpah of going against one's Jewish mother!

  • other players I like but don't have a specific ship for: del Potro, Murray, M. Zverev, Gauff, Sakkari, Tomljanovic, S. Williams, V. Williams

  • I don't mind an excuse to learn about someone new, especially someone Jewish! (This goes for men and women, active or retired!)

Star Trek: TOS, TNG, DS9
  • TOS: Kirk/McCoy/Spock or any duo therein, Chekov/Sulu, any friendship involving those characters, Uhura, and/or Chapel

  • TNG: Beverly/Picard, Riker/Deanna, Data/Tasha Yar, Data/LaForge, any friendship involving those characters, Wes, and/or Worf, PLEASE NO Q!

  • DS9: Kira/Odo, Jadzia Dax/Worf, Keiko/Miles, Nog/Jake, any friendship involving those characters, Benjamin Sisko, and/or Quark, PLEASE NO Q!

Schitt's Creek
  • I hate to admit it, but I haven't actually seen this show and am unlikely to do so in the near future. I'm aware of the general plot and character arcs.

  • DNW: poly ships, Ted ships other than Ted/Alexis

  • Ships I don't want to see split up: Patrick/David, Johnny/Moira

  • In approximate order of preference from fave to least fave, my Alexis ships are: Ted/Alexis, Alexis/Twyla, Alexis/Rachel

Ted Lasso
  • I hate to admit it, but I haven't actually seen this show and am unlikely to do so in the near future. I'm aware of the general plot and character arcs.

  • DNW: Rebecca in a romantic relationship with a player, Dr. Jacob in any capacity

  • Ships I like: Roy/Keeley/Jamie, Ted/Beard

  • Characters I like but don't have a ship for: Rebecca, Trent, Nate, Dr. Sharon

  • I know quite a bit about the EPL, so if you want to find something that highlights that, go for it! But if you don't, that's okay, too!

Check Please!
  • I read Years 1-3 in one sitting shortly before Year 4 began its release, at which point I read as it was posted. I never looked at the in-character tweets.

  • Ships I like: Bitty/Jack, Tater/Kent, (Chowder/)Nursey/Dex, Holster/Ransom, Lardo/Shitty

  • DNWs: mentions of Jack's overdose

  • I know some stuff about the NHL, but pretty much nothing about collegiate hockey. So feel free to teach me things!

Rabbinic and Talmudic Judaism RPF, Jewish Scripture & Legend, Tanakh, Midrash, Talmud
  • I'm Jewish and know some stuff about all this, but not a lot.

  • However, I have enjoyed reading past Purimgifts fics in these fandoms!

  • DNW: interfaith relationships unless canon (ex. Moses/Tzipporah is okay, random Canaan woman/either of them isn't)

  • I realize this probably isn't very helpful information - sorry! If you have a specific question, I can probably answer (admittedly with a little googling in many cases). I don't know if this info is helpful, but I'm Ashkenazi and Conservative.

Things Not Specific to a Fandom

Likes:
  • happy or at least hopeful ending - this is a MUST, though feel free to pile on the angst beforehand!

  • most AUs (including but not limited to coffeeshop, university, non-famous, different sport)

  • omegaverse dynamics

  • mpreg (either omegaverse or not)

  • dom/sub dynamics

  • family/friendship feels (including pets!)

  • soulmates (including but not limited to marks, bonds)

  • magical realism/urban fantasy (including but not limited to de-aging, witchcraft, talking to animals)

  • use of foreign language (esp. if one character is fluent but the other isn't)

DNWs:
  • bashing (of teams, of characters, of canon love interests, etc.)

  • rape/dubcon

  • violence

  • watersports/scat/vore

  • BDSM clubs

  • blood

  • death/serious injury

  • infidelity

  • incest

  • childbirth scenes (fade to black is okay)

  • mentions of coronavirus, pandemic, lockdown, etc. (for sports fandoms: this includes no bubbles or return to play)

  • racism, sexism, antisemitism, homophobia, and the like

  • depression, anxiety, OCD, suicidal ideation/thoughts, and the like (your discretion, but please err on the side of 'no')

  • power imbalance (ex. if the main ship is player/coach or student/teacher)

  • hospitals

Podfic-Specific Things

I tend to read the original fic while listening to the podfic. I'm not sure if knowing that helps you in any way, but I figured I'd mention it.
On a possibly related note: If you want to include freetalk and/or outtakes, go for it, but don't feel obligated! (Considering that I never include outtakes, it would be rather hypocritical of me to insist that you include them.)

Things I like, but don't want you to feel forced into doing:
  • Music (I have no problem with words and music overlapping so long as the words are understandable)

  • Sound effects (especially the DIY kind I do a lot of in my own podfics)

  • Character voices and/or accents

  • A distinct tone for the narrator

  • Singing (enthusiasm is more important to me than perceived quality in this regard)

DNWs:
  • Sex sounds (panting/heavy breathing is okay in other contexts)

  • Gagging, vomiting, and similar sounds (a few spits in a row are fine)

  • Gunshots/loud bangs

  • "Sudden noise" sound effects similar to the above-listed

  • Anything that might make me thing something's gone wrong with my computer/phone while I'm listening (ex. buzzing noises, beeping noises)

I think that's everything! If I come up with anything else, I'll edit it in.

Thank you very much in advance!! Let me know if you have any questions! Chag Purim Sameach!

My Year in Reading ( 2025 version)

glitteryv: (Default)
[personal profile] glitteryv
I know there was a book reading meme somewhere, but I can't find it so we're going a bit bare bones today. Ended up making this one up. 😅

Total books I meant to read: 51

Total DNFs: 14

Other stats 62% of what I read I borrowed from the library, 24% was from Kindle Unlimited (when I had it for 3 months for free), and 14% was from my own TBR.

Fave books

Sweep in Peace and One Fell sweep from Ilona Andrews' Innkeeper Chronicles series. They were the ONLY books I gave 5 stars to. Also loved Skyla Dawn Cameron's The Silent Places.

Biggest Disappointments

* Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll - A roman a clef abt the victims and survivors of Ted Bundy that was lauded everywhere. I still don't know WHO this book is for, LOLsob.

* Murder by Memory by Olivia Wilde - ANOTHER DISSENTING OPINION because the mystery was so weak that I decided to not continue the series. (But I'll continue to give this author a chance.)

Biggest Surprises

* The Wife Deserved It by Darby Kane - A shorter-than-expected novella that I enjoyed so much I'm going to read more books by this author.

* The Silent Places gets a tip of the hat as well cuz it was a good suspense novel that had the best ending I've read in a long while.

Worst books

* Make Room for Love by Darci Liao - Was excited abt a butch Chinese-American lesbian and a transgender Indian-American bisexual woman. But the story veered into a whole thing abt a student union and I ended up hating the whole thing.

* A Court of Deceit and Ruin by Jessaca Willis - Promoted as "a slow-burn sapphic fantasy romance perfect for fans of fairy tale retellings, dark magic, and star-crossed fates" --which turned out to be lies. The book WAS well-written, but this wasn't a romance, there was zero slow burn (again, NOT a romance), and the rest of the description is off. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

* Bitterbound by A.Z. Louise - An alleged "assassin x target romantasy" that had too many plotpoints that weren't quite resolved, a weak-ass romance, and a TERRIBLE ending (given the premise.)

Average rating for the year: 3. No idea how that happened.

Overall thoughts

It was a super strange reading year, NGL. I tried a lot of new-to-me authors (DNF'd a lot of them too, LOLsob) and had a meh reading year. Wished I'd tackled a lot more of my TBR and that I'd done Nonfiction November.

OTOH, I've set my reading goal at 15 books cuz that's low-pressure enough yet doeble for me. OTOH, I'm participating on two different reading challenges, so it's possible I'll read the same amount of books this year as I did last. :P

FICS

Total fics I picked up to read: 222 - I feel like this was lower than other years, huh.

Total DNFs: 103 - Way better than I expected given that there were months where I kept DNF'ing stuff left and right, LOL.

Total wordcount read: 2,126,551 - FTR, I don't feel one way or another abt this number. It's just interesting to know I've read 2.1M words, but there's no self-worth type of attachment from me toward it.

Highest reading month? January --which was 29 fics total. Makes sense to me!

Lowest reading month? April and August -- where I only read 9 fics each. IDK what distracted me in April, but I've got an idea that Summer SADs got to me in August.

Fandom I read the most: BTS. 😋 77 fics with Yoonjin being the ship I read the most (35).

Other fandoms 41 fics total split between Seventeen (multiple ships), TXT (multiple ships), TCGF (Hualian), BTVS (Buffy/Faith, Faith/Other), Shinee (Minho/Key)

Fave fics I read in 2025 (i.e. the fics that I kept thinking abt even months after I'd read them.)

* the last person i could ever love by [archiveofourown.org profile] miraclesofpaul (BTS, Explicit, Omegaverse, endgame ship is Jin/Yoongi, other background ships, 152k total ) - This fic was rollercoaster of LOLs, DRAHMAHZ, and many sweet moments. *Chef's kiss* due to it being a TRUE Enemies-to-Lovers AU.

* Interlude by [archiveofourown.org profile] duets (BTS, Rated Teen, Jin/Yoongi, 2.4k words total) - AU in which BTS never happens, but Yoongi ends up as a famous rapper and Jin is an actor. LOVED THE MIXED MEDIA format.

* You have seven [7] new calendar invites by [archiveofourown.org profile] andlovetoo (Mature, OT7, 5.8k words total) - BTS trying to sync their calendar is all you need to know abt this wonderful chatfic.

* Stacks by [archiveofourown.org profile] tender_tenderly (Explicit, RM/V, 9.8k words total) - A librarian AU of win with one-sided rivals-to-lovers, heheh.

* Growing Toward The Sun by [archiveofourown.org profile] Nevaeh - Non-Idol AU abt the ups and downs of queer life in Seoul. I loved the balance of angst and fluff.

* Break Thru Everything by [archiveofourown.org profile] aceaceaceace - (Rated Teen, established Minho/Key, 11.5k words total) SHINee's Key starts to organize with other queer idols to come out as a collective. Loved everything abt it (including the mentions of other idols who did come out too.)

* Sediment by [archiveofourown.org profile] belledamn (BTVS, Mature, Buffy/Faith, 27k words total) - A perfect Noir AU in which Buffy's a PI, Faith's a sex worker, and they have a hella complicated relationship. I liked the way the author integrated other characters into the story.

Snowflake Challenge #1

two log cabins with snow on the roofs in a wintery forest the text snowflake challenge january 1 - 31 in white cursive text

The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.

I've never really considered myself a particularly "fannish" person, but the more I explore fandom world (or at least the small corners of it I've poked around in), the more inspired I feel, and the more I feel like the part of me that needs to create and connect could find a home here (despite some lingering ambivalence about some of the things I actually create in these spaces). I like the regularity and structure it provides to my creative life, with all the challenges and events and stuff, and I love the exchanges: it's so cool and sweet to me that people put so much effort into making little gifts and treats for each other! I also feel like the more time I spend writing and thinking and "talking" (on here) about stories and characters I like, the stronger my feelings for them/relationships with them become, and I've really enjoyed that process.

I'm hoping that this Snowflake challenge will give me some opportunities to think more deeply about my relationship to my creativity and the things that inspire me. I'm looking forward to reading other people's posts too and reflecting on other people's reflections. :)

OK so like I said the other day, I'm going to try this Fannish 50 thing by doing a re-read of The Raven Cycle, picking one quote per week (chosen from roughly four chapters of re-reading) to reflect on using these prompts.  And I'd love it if anyone else weighed in on any of these quotes, whether or not you've read the books. OK here we go!

Total Podfic Year over Year

Well, my stats really feel like they reflect the burnout I've been going through, particularly in 2024 and 2025. I've got a nice little bell curve going on. It's been a big struggle to do things, particularly outside events. And I even had to cut back on events this year, which was good since I barely had energy to finish the ones I was in.

But I didn't have any defaults and I'm in a new job and hopeful I'll be able to start addressing the burnout in my irl life that will let me get back to fandom. While I was grabbing the stats it really felt like "wow, I used to podfic for fun outside of events" because it really has dropped for me outside of big events like voiceteam or pod_together.

I knew I was missing 2024 and 2025 from my spreadsheet. As I was wrapping up getting 2024 in it... I discovered a bunch of data missing for 2023... and then I found that I had only filled in like half of 2022... Whoops. I did a LOT of spreadsheet-ing this week.

Charts

The first two charts are just my hours/number of podfics per year. I don't think I'll ever get as high as 2020 again (at least not in the near future), but I was thinking about 70 hours was going to be sustainable for me and what I'd level out at... not so much.

Ratings of my Podfics

A lot of my other stats are pretty similar and haven't changed year over year on like "what kind of fic am I reading". This is the percentage by number of podfics per year. it's always kept about 10% in the NSFW range, and 90% in gen and sfw topics.

Percentage Per number of pods
 2022202320242025
Gen43.8849.0449.4061.19
Teen46.0438.4654.7128.36
Mature6.477.697.238.96
Explicit2.882.880.001.49
NR0.721.922.410.00

Though when you look at it by the % of the hours I've podfic'd you do see that part of the reason for this is that when I do record a NSFW pod, it tends to be a long one and there's a lot more variance. Like my Mature/Explicit percentage suddenly jumps to nearly 30-40% of what I record.

Percentage Per hours record
 2022202320242025
Gen23.5815.5226.1425.88
Teen38.8633.3954.7135.62
Mature15.2345.6817.4335.39
Explicit21.024.930.003.11
NR1.300.501.720.00

Category of my podfics

Simiarly patterns can be seen in the category (gen vs m/m vs f/m). This is where I really show I'm a gen podficcer lmao. I usually have a good chunk that is also M/M as most of my ships are in that category. But I will take a fic without romance over all of them and that hasn't really ever changed lmao.
Percentage Per number of pods
Category2022202320242025
Gen58.9948.0865.0680.60

F/M2.605.774.820.00
M/M25.1834.6218.0713.43
Multi5.766.734.822.99

It fluctuates again a bit as we look at number of hours record instead of number of podfics. It's a lot harder to find long fics that don't have ships and I also really love long fics. But still, I usually have just about 1/2 of my total hours record as gen fic.
Percentage Per hours record
Category2022202320242025

Multi3.840.375.661.34

Podfics During Events

Looking at it a different way, I've also noticed, the only time I can get motivated is during an event. And you can really see that reflected in these stats as well. The blue that doesn't have a label is the podfic I created for without an event going on.

So in 2022, 36% of my podfics (going by hours recorded) happened outside events.2023 had even more created outside events at almost 60% of my pods were created just for me. Then in 2024 we see a dramatic drop off with only 7% and in 2025 only 3% being created outside events. Big oof.

Fandoms

Doing just a truncated look on fandoms since I have too many my top fandom for the last 4 years by number of pods were

By Number of Pods Created

2022Star Wars (51)DCU (9)
2023Naruto (21)Star Wars(17)

2024Star Wars (7.5 hrs)The Sandman (3 hrs)
2025One Piece (6 hrs)SPN (4.5 hrs)

The rediculous upsets like that happened in 2023 (SPN had 26 hour recorded for it... but only 3 total podfics created) are why I always end up doing two versions of most of these charts lol. Sometimes I get lazy like I did for the events. It's generally been fandom that I see the biggest swings in "number p

Summary

So yeah. My main conclusion here is burnout sucks but I still love podficcing. I take what I can get motivation wise. My fandom shifts but my tastes generally stay the same no matter the fandom.

Reading: Still the Doctor Who Reader, but supplementing with various Yuletide recs, and what I assume are Primeval Denial secret santa offerings. So far Dog Hamlets (Lord Peter Wimsey casefic. I had to think a bit to understand what the evidence was showing, but understood in the end - I think) and On Solstice Night (a spooky folklore take on the the "stuck in a bothy" trope, for a Primeval character and, because this is Primeval fandom, a shared OC).

Listening: Having exhausted all the podfic advent calendars, I'm listing to the Missing Episodes Podcast which I'd been hearing people mention for years but never really picked up. It is well done and if I catch up with them, I'll be interested in their take on the current nebulous swirling rumours.

Watching: When Marmalade Sparrow is here we end up watching a lot of Taskmaster, which she introduced us to. I think we're currently somewhere around 2018.

Voice Team Mystery Box - Goals

[personal profile] peasina
The discord has now opened for this year's [community profile] voiceteam Mystery Box (VTMB), the winter mini-round of an event that’s kind of like [community profile] battleship but for podfic. This year I’m on team ‘Over The Top’, named for a team full of members who like to make lots of things! ^^

Earlier this year, I posted a list of personal goals for my participation in Battleship 2025, and it really helped guide me whenever I felt overwhelmed by the fast pace and variety of choices/challenges. So, I’m doing it again for VTMB! Here are my top ten wishes for this year’s event.

ONE: Record at least 5 femslash pods
Apparently, December 2025 has been the month of me getting into new femslash pairings, so I’d like to extend that to making podfic about them!

TWO: Repod one of my older pods
I got a comment from the author on a pod I made in Nov' 2020 recently, which was a lovely surprise. However, it reminded me that I’d always wanted to repod that one, as now that I have more experience, I believe could do it better. I’d like to give it a try and hope there’s a repod challenge this year 🤞 (I’ll still try to do it, even if there isn’t.)

THREE: Record at least three podfics that are over an hour in length
I’m aiming for 2026 to be my year of long pods, so it would be a good way to get started selecting longer things to record. With my pacing, a 1-hour podfic will be of a story around the 8,500 – 9,500 mark.

FOUR: Record gift pods for three specific people who aren’t playing VTMB
I’m combining my potential giftees into this one wish in the hopes I can manage all three. For now, I'll call them M, E, and W.

FIVE: Podfic my Night at the Museum fic ‘On Every Horizon’
I’ve wanted to podfic this one since I wrote it, as it’s probably the all-time fic I’m most proud of. I’ve always been intimidated to do so though (mostly because the character voices are so important for Jed and Octavius and I’m not so good at those) but if I can manage it, I’ll be so happy. It's also 15k so 😅

SIX: Record at least three Pokémon podfics
Just because it’s fun ^^

SEVEN: Record a gift for a member of my team I didn’t know before the event
Who knows who it will be and what they’ll be into! I hope I can deliver 💪

EIGHT: Make something physical for a challenge (crafts, baked goods, cosplay, etc.)
I’ve done this in prior rounds, making zines, wax melts, and cocktails. It’s soooo fun to steal use my podfic-related inspiration to make something tangible, so I hope to do it again this year.

NINE: Write something
I don’t care what it is! It could be a drabble, a tutorial, a rec post, but if it’s words, and let’s say… over 300 of them, then it counts. I’d prefer fic, but my writing mojo has been all over the place this year, so my goal can be a little all over the place too :P

TEN: Make new friends!
Voiceteam is great for this 🤞🤞🤞

Fannish 50

So I'm going to try to do this Fannish 50 thing! Because I'm nearing the end of the Dreamer Trilogy, I'm thinking of going back through the Raven Cycle chapter by chapter, choosing one quote per week, and writing about it using these prompts. I definitely won't get through all of the books by the end of the year at this rate, but I think it'll be a good way to think more deeply about some of the characters and themes...and who knows, maybe I'll carry it over into 2027. Or maybe I'll fizzle out way before that! We'll seeee!

Title: the things that might have healed me

Fandom: The Outsiders

Pairing: Dallas/Ponyboy

Rating: Gen

Warning: None

Tags: Canon Compliant, Slice of Life, Missing Scenes

Author’s Note: This is a companion series to “ashes and dust.” Like “ashes and dust,” this work will be a series of nonchronological, short ficlets. Each chapter is meant to be read as a separate, complete story. However, these will be overtly shippy.

The title references "Dust and Ashes."

And, as usual, thanks to my partner for editing this and making it far better than it otherwise would have been.

Summary:

Romance happens in Tulsa, Oklahoma, too.

Story One: Smoke [Dallas/Ponyboy]

Reading, Listening, Watching

purplecat: The Tardis against a sunset (or possibly sunrise) (Doctor Who)

Reading: Adventures Across Space and Time: A Doctor Who Reader - I love the idea of this book - a collection of academic writing about Doctor Who that can stand as a starting point for scholars, but I knew when I bought it that I would find it quite hard going because I'm not a humanities scholar and I find their idiom somewhat hard-going.

Listening: The Radio Free Skaro and, this year, the Starship Alexandria Advent calendars. I am, as I always am, somewhat behind. But at least this year I'm up to day 18...

Watching: We watched The War Between the Land and the Sea and it was... fine? I don't quite feel it justified its existence. The ending was unsatisfactory - our heroes got to be in love, but everything else looks like a complete garbarge fire. It was very good in places, fine in others, kind of dull sometimes and events often felt like they were happening in order to get to the next plot beat rather than because they made internal sense. If it hadn't been Doctor Who adjacent, we wouldn't have watched.
